Waypoint
Road settings can only be applied on waypoints. A path is created by placing waypoints, the path will be created between them.
How to set-up a simple road After selecting Road Settings in the F9 Menu, press Q to place your first waypoint. Now you can pick the the properties of a waypoint, choose your road type, etc. By clicking left mouse, you place the waypoint. You can place as many waypoints as you wish. A path is always created from one waypoint to another. When you are done, you can press Create path - and it creates your road.
Now we will go through all of the possible road settings.
Visual Road Settings
Profile
Profile lets you choose from different road types - for example, whether you want a city or a country road.
Style
Style lets you choose some minor modifications to your road, for example you can add a sidewalk, or railing.
Type
In the type setting, you can choose between a one-way and a two-way road. Both can support multiple lanes, but they will be passable only in a single direction.
Road Position
Elevation
Allows you to set the elevation of the waypoint - also doable by pressing Z and adjusting it to favored position. Elevation is relative to the ground the waypoint is at.
Altitude
The same thing as elevation, but relative to the mean sea level.
Slant
With this you can make the road slanted. Useful for making for example a formula track.
Routing
Routing lets you decide between sharp and smooth waypoints. A sharp waypoint is one that is not curved, while a smooth one is. You can also pick on which side the waypoint should be smooth or sharp.
Smooth - The path curves through the waypoint in both directions. It creates a smooth line. Sharp - The waypoint is sharp on both of its sides. In - The waypoint is sharp towards the previous waypoint. The path approachs the waypoint with a sharp turn, but exits smoothly toward the next. Out - The path enters the waypoint smoothly but makes a sharp turn toward the next point.
Lane Settings
Center line
Lets you choose the center line style. (For example if it is a double line, or a single one, or none) But also you can put there a special lane - like a guard.
Lane lines
This option lets you change the style of lines in lanes. for example a dashed line or a solid one.
Lane count
Sets the number of lanes on each side of the road.
Side lane Allows you to put special markings on your side lane. It is useful when you want to create a hatched part of the road or a bus lane.
Current options:
- None
- Hatch - Creates an arch-shaped hatch
- Hatch trail - Creates a hatch starting from the selected waypoint on full size. Terminates on the next waypoint.
- Hatch lead - Creates a hatch starting from the next waypoint and terminates on the selected one.
- Hatch full - Create a full hatch stretching between the selected and next waypoint.
Side lane align Lets you select either inner or outer lane.
Converging lane
Allows you to handle converging lanes. There are two main types of converging lanes: Note that you can only create converging lanes if you have two waypoints and one of them has a different lane count than the other. First you select the lane you want to change - either outer or inner. If the next waypoint has less lanes then the selected, you will have these two options:
Enter or Exit Enter option makes an entering lane, meaning that a lane is going to be added to your road. Available when the previous waypoint has a larger lane count then the selected one. Exit option creates an exit lane, meaning that one lane will be removed from the main path. Available when the following waypoint has a smaller lane count then the selected one.
In this photo, there is a waypoint with both an exit and an enter lane. The enter lane is on the left.
Split or Merge Merge is used when you want to join two lanes into one. Available when the previous waypoint has a larger lane count then the selected one. Split is used when you want to create two lanes from a single one. Available when the following waypoint has a smaller lane count then the selected one.
On the right, there is a merging lane, on the left a splitting lane. Both options are set to outer.
The same path, but the converging lanes are set to inner:
Advanced Road Settings
Terrain
Choose whether or not your bridge or tunnel should modify terrain. Used when you want to create a bridge abutment. When creating bridges, it is automatically set to Do not modify.
Adapt to previous
Adapts the waypoint’s width to the previous waypoint. This is done in cases when one waypoint has a bigger width than the other one and you want to make it look more seamless. This is mostly done automatically.
Side width
Lets you set the width of a lane.
Border
Lets you set the width of the border.
