Managing publications' data with Zotero - OscarPDR/labman_ud GitHub Wiki

In order to ease the management of the publications' data, labman_ud can automatically import papers from a shared Zotero group. Zotero is a "free, easy-to-use tool to help you collect, organize, cite, and share your research sources".

To be able to manage the research group's publications with Zotero a shared group must be created (home>groups>create new group) and shared with the research group members. The group must be public, but it can have a closed membership.

Uploading papers to the Zotero group

The papers can be uploaded directly on the Zotero page, using the browser plugin or with the stand-alone application. We will use the stand-alone application for the examples but three options share the same steps.

1.- Add the new paper using the correct option (conference paper, journal paper...)

This can also be done automatically with the browser plugin:

2.- If you have added the paper with the browser plugin, make sure that the data is correct

3.- Add the correct tags to the paper.

This step is very important. This tags will be used to complete the publication metadata and to generate several of the visualizations.

There are 4 types of tags that must be added to each publication:

Thematic tags:

This tags are used to create the tag cloud visualizations, find related researches, etc.

  • Topics: mobile computing, linked data, data mining
  • Tools: virtuoso, nltk, jena
  • Languages: python, java
  • Platforms: android

Conference tags:

You only have to add this tags if the publication is a conference paper. This tags are used ass metadata to add the corresponding images in the publication pages.

  • If the conference has a core rank, add the appropriate tag: corea, coreb, corec
  • If the conference is indexed by the ISI add the tag: isi

Journal tags:

You only have to add this tags if the publication is a journal paper. This tags are used ass metadata to add the corresponding images in the publication pages.

  • If the journal is a JCR indexed and has an impact factor, add it following the format: jcr#.### (e.g. jcr1.234)
  • Add the quartile of the journal using the tags: Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4

Project tags

If the journal is related to some project add it to the tags (e.g. thofu). This will be used to create the related papers visualization in the project pages.

4.- Add the publication's PDF file.

5.- Extract publications from labman_ud

Finally, access the management panel (/management) on labman_ud, where the publication related tasks can be found. Once there, you can synchronize or reset the publications database, or parse an individual publication.
