Glossary

This page contains a list of terms for your reference. If a new term is ever coined, please feel free to add it to the list.

  • Action: The resulting effect of playing a card.
  • Attack: A card or action that deals damage.
  • Blocker: A category of obstacle that entities cannot move through.
  • Booster Pack/Pack: A kind of treasure chest that gives the player a new card.
  • Boss: The big enemy at the end of each floor.
  • Boss Room: The special room in which you fight the boss.
  • Card: The objects that make up a deck, each representing a different action. Each card refers to a Dungeon Card and Player Card pair.
  • Card Remover: An object the player can interact with to remove cards from their deck.
  • Card Slot: A space in the player's hand that a card is placed into when drawn from their deck.
  • Caster: The entity that is the source of an action (i.e., a card the player played would have the player as its caster).
  • Chest: A kind of treasure chest that contains sideboard items.
  • Chording: The act of playing multiple cards at once.
    • Chord Effect: The unique effect of each non-root card in a chord that is applied to the root card.
    • Root: The first card of a chord that defines the base of the attack.
  • Container: A category of obstacle that is easily destructible and drops pickup items.
  • Curse Card: A card with a negative effect found in a Curse Room.
  • Curse Room: A special room that contains a Curse Card.
  • Deck: A collection of cards. Deck usually refers to the Player's deck, but may refer to the deck of cards the player has taken.
  • Dungeon: The main setting of the game. The player ventures through this over the course of the game.
  • Dungeon Card: The Dungeon-effecting side of a card.
  • Dungeon Deck: The collection of all Dungeon Cards sides of the cards in the deck.
  • Dungeon Master: The main antagonist and final boss of the game.
  • Enemy: A hostile entity that attacks the player (i.e., a skeleton).
  • Entity: An object in the game world. Usually this refers to the player or an enemy.
  • Floor: A level of the dungeon. The dungeon has 4 floors.
  • Floor Trap: A category of obstacle that have different effects on entities walking over them.
  • Hand: The collection of cards the player has available to play at any given time.
  • Obstacle: The immobile objects that fill rooms.
  • Pickup/Pickup Item: A basic item that is picked up off the ground. This includes things like hearts and gold.
  • Pit: A category of obstacle that is more or less a hole in the floor of a room. Projectiles can freely cross these, but entities cannot unless they can fly.
  • Player: The character controlled by the person playing the game.
  • Player Card: The player card side of a card. Usually these are things like an attack or buff effect (i.e., "Fireball").
  • Player Deck: The collection of all Player Cards sides of the cards in the deck. This is what the player draws cards from.
  • Post-Boss Room: The special room that can only be reached after the boss of a floor is defeated. It is attached to the boss room and contains a card remover, sometimes a shop, and the stairs that lead down to the next floor of the dungeon.
  • Projectile: The moving "bullet" part of an attack. This is the part of an attack that damages entities.
  • Room: The 7x11 tile spaces that make up each floor.
  • Run: An individual playthrough of the game.
  • Shop: A special room where the player can buy cards and sideboard items.
  • Sideboard: The collection of sideboard items the player has collected throughout a run.
  • Sideboard Items: Items that grant permanent improvements to the player/have augmenting effects on how the player plays the game.
  • Starting Room: The special room that the player starts in on each floor.
  • Template: A pre-designed layout for a room.
  • Tile: A single square in a room on which a single obstacle can be placed. Each room is made up of a 7x11 tile grid.
  • Treasure Room: A special room containing booster packs and occasionally (extremely rarely) sideboard items.
  • Turret: A category of obstacle that fires projectiles.
