Typography 101
Here is a quick guide for choosing the right font:
-
Should it feel cold and distant or near and warm? Should it feel modern or old? Pixely or clean? Think about it should convey.
-
Besides the Logo of your game, your Font should never be the focus. A game set in old times should not necessarily use old font but rather just simple forgettable ones. The right Font falls into the background.
-
Use Sans-Fonts for short text like headers or menu elements. Use Serif-Fonts for longer text like dialogue or item descriptions. Use display fonts only for headers and tile screen, not for text that needs to be read a lot. Use the Families correctly.
-
When using different fonts together, make sure that they distinguishable. Keep a sharp contrast between styles.
-
Choose the Font that serves your purpose, not every Font displays the letters the same way. For example the Prefer Readability to Design.
*
