Notes for May 21 Meetup - OpenMaine/Leadership GitHub Wiki

Marpheen Chann, Cambodian Community Association of Maine Google sheets/ google forms Started with one form and adapted, added other questions

Top priority and goal: help families impacted Secondary goal: Data hasn't been kept, especially demographic data. Contact info wasn't located in one spot. If a leader disappeared or burnt out. Affects translation services, other partners and organizations; no stability

COVID is perfect opportunity to assist the community and to gather demographic data through the needs request form. Strategically also asking them questions that are similar to the census to get them familiarized with the questions. Wanting/ needing to store data in a way so that if leadership moves on, nothing gets lost.

Other goal: recruiting and training volunteers to help others, develop skills and bring up more than one leader. May 9: served 53 families, 3 of them were families directly affected by the Tyson food outbreak Last weekend: served 37 families. Ongoing, looking to serve 10-15 on average

Challenges: Cambodian elders filling out the form, but don't have an email address. Relying on a relative's phone

Is there a way to make a form speak to you? Challenge: have to give out a volunteer's phone number, if we have people speak to volunteers

  • Ideal is that everyone hears a phone call come in

Biggest focus: reaching hard to reach populations -geographically distributed

  • temple is the only place they can gather, figured out a way to do it virtually
  • how do we get elders comfortable with using the technology, especially
