Welcome to first Sandbox meeting , yup yup!

What we can discuss:

  • Settle in what is and benefits of the Sandbox so we can pitch to projects

    • Evan already set a repo and ReadME of it and Sean wrote about it here
  • Decide which projects combine and invite to be part of the Sandbox.

Projects:

  • Start prepare infrastructure and task for the first project ‘wallet score’ of @OminiAnalytics
  • Invite TJ and TrueBlocks

Our deadline:

----- Meeting Notes -----

Sean brought some reflections on administrative/sponsors <> technical member of the sandbox and how administrative should take care to not be dictatorial in the direction of a open source project but act in a co-operative manner and facilitate the growth and building

We discuss about what we think the sandbox can offer (benefits) to the sandbox projects:

  • engineering / Tooling (project management tools, education on some tools, etc..)
  • Network with other builders and potential sponsors
  • Mentorship
  • Contributions and exposition to the project trough hackathons
  • Marketing through our channels
@Stefi will be responsible for writing a blog post about the sandbox so we could start some buzz about it
  • onboarding to becoming a project: docs, tools, mentors, discord channel(s)
  • financing, sponsorship, bounties: Sean thinks we focus on getting the above stuff done well first and then start on this next.
  • legal and regulatory advice by being a project, e.g. which license to use, ICLA/CCLA to protect you and your project.
  • A write-up of what it means to be a ODC Jedi
  • Making consistent the roles across the ODC Jedis
  • A write-up of how someone becomes a ODC Jedi

We discussed projects to host on the Sandbox, mentioned @OminAnalitics project proposal on our discord channel and talked briefly about some hackathon submissions and people that would be great to have in the community. From that, @Poupou will lead the discussions around projects and names together with @stefi , they will probably build a mirror board (or something like that ) with thoughts about projects strengths and possibilities so comunity can collaborate and vote on a couple of projects to invite to the Sandbox. @Poupou have already started some conversations with some people to understand their motivations and willingness to collaborate on projects. Sean mentioned look to multiple submissions, community involvement as ones to encourage to join as a sandbox projects.

We talked too about how we have limited energy ( at least for now) and how it would be not viable to accept a lot of projects on the sandbox, instead focus and give support to a few potential ones.

Sean emphasized the importance of determining a license that we would (strongly) suggest projects on sandbox to be built on. Conflicting licenses (MIT, LGPL, Apache) will cause release and stack problems. We will need lawyer to advise us at some point. The timing and cost of OSS legal advice on license and contribution agreements is TBD based on sponsors and projects.
