Researching other Open Data literacy efforts, allowed us to identify common themes and objectives we could build upon to the two Seattle Public Library Events.

While we found no hard and fast standards around data literacy, there were some emergent themes around core competencies. The Open Data Literacy Research Notes, found HERE, describes these themes and provides resources that were utilized in the research process. While much of the research we found pertained more broadly to data literacy, we found the research applicable to our Open Data event. Some broadly defined themes we identified were:

• Understanding of what Open Data is, and how to obtain it
• Reading, interpreting, and evaluating data
• Using data
• Data visualization
• Data ethics
