Forest Interface Overview - OpenDataEnterprise/sdg-nri-website GitHub Wiki
Introduction
Forest is an SaaS (Software as a Service) admin panel that provides an easy-to-set-up interface for users to interact with their databases.
Logging in
To access the admin panel, first you'll need to log in to Forest.
Note: If you do not have an account, an existing administrator will need to invite you to join a project team.
Once you authenticate with Forest, the project selection screen should appear. Select the SDG National Reporting Initiative project.
You should be automatically redirected to the project dashboard. The dashboard view provides statistics about the data at-a-glance.
Managing data
To access the data tables, select Data
from the expanded menu on the left-hand side.
This should give you a view of the configured data tables. Records for each table are returned in pages, with a maximum number of records per page. You can navigate between pages through the control in the lower-right corner.
The search bar at the top also allows you to more directly search for a particular record, or create a filter on the current table.
Caveats and Limitations
- Forest is meant to provide an interface for managing project data. It is not meant specifically for editing content on the website.
- The technologies underlying Forest do not fully support some of the more specific PostgreSQL features used by the project, and as such, Forest may potentially run into issues when fetching data under certain circumstances.
- Unfortunately, the list of field editing widgets is currently somewhat limited and cannot be customized.
