Users can create new Concepts in OCL.
As defined earlier, concepts are usually represented as data definitions, terminologies or indicators in data dictionaries. They depict how data elements (such as diagnosis, laboratory tests, or symptoms) or another data element with its metadata, such as a code, data type, length, or synonym are modeled in OCL.

  • In your user profile, select the Source you want to add a Concept to.

  • Select + New Concept.

  • Add the details of the Concept you are adding. OCL allows you to add custom attributes to your concept if you so desire.

  • Once you fill in all the details, click Create Concept to add your new concept.

##Managing Concepts Once you've added your Concept, you can view Concept Details, any Mappings, and the concept's revision History.

  • Concept Details is where you can add synonyms to the Concept, add a Description, and add any Extra information. Access this page by clicking on the Details tab on the concepts page

  • Concept Mappings shows any Mappings associated with the Concept. Read more about Mappings and learn how to map Concepts at Mapping Concepts

  • Concept History allows you to see when the Concept was added, and the timestamp of any updates that have been made

Retiring a Concept

You may want do away with a concept for a number of reasons. In these instances, OCL allows you to do this in a process called Retiring. Retiring excludes the resource from further analysis and subsequent search results.

  • To Retire your Concept:

  • Click the Trash Icon icon next to Edit Concept

  • You will be prompted to confirm your action

  • You will also need to provide a reason for retiring the concept in the text field below.

  • Retire the concept
