Frequently Asked Questions: Dragons - Omni-guides/Tuxborn GitHub Wiki

This page covers information pertinent to all things dragon in Tuxborn. Information here should be considered current for our most recent official build, 1.1.3.

"Does Tuxborn adjust the difficulty of fighting dragons?"

Not at this time. That said: since Tuxborn does up the difficulty level of combat in general, this will include fighting dragons. We're just not doing anything to fighting dragons specifically.

"Does Tuxborn make any other adjustments to dragons?"

Only visual ones, just to vary up what dragons look like.

"How about dragon spawn rates? I'm not seeing nearly as many random dragon attacks as in vanilla Skyrim!"

This is impacted by the Timing is Everything mod. Check the MCM settings under Extra Options > Dragon Attacks. There are two variables there that control the minimum number of days between attacks, and the percentage chance of a dragon attack.

We are setting those numbers lower than vanilla, so if that's too low for your liking, adjust the numbers as you see fit.

Other than Timing is Everything, original Skyrim constraints on dragon spawning should still apply:

  • No dragons until you fight Mirmulnir at the watchtower and absorb his soul
  • Random dragon spawns turned off entirely while you have the quest A Blade in the Dark active

Vanilla's impact on dragon spawn rates escalates them once you finish A Blade in the Dark. In Tuxborn, you'll probably see that Timing is Everything still is in play even after that point. So if you get fairly far along in the main quest and still aren't seeing as many dragons as you think you should be, check the Timing is Everything MCM again and see if you need to tweak the chances. (For example, you may need to do this on Solstheim to get enough souls to fill out the Bend Will Shout before your final fight with Miraak.)

‼️ A word of caution: If you do bump up the frequency of dragon attacks, this will include both random dragons in the wild and dragon attacks on towns. This could prove problematic especially in Solitude, if you're running LOTD and using the Safehouse as your home base! Increased dragon attacks in Solitude can and will kill named NPCs, such as Beirand the smith or other merchants who have open-air booths, or Captain Aldis of the Imperial forces in Castle Dour! ‼️

"Does Tuxborn add any new named dragons to the game?"

Some of our quest mods are known to have additional named dragons them, including but not limited to:

  • Interesting NPCs
  • Legacy of the Dragonborn
  • Warden of the Coast
  • Wyrmstooth
