Networking Assembly and Tether - Offset-official/Nautilus-One GitHub Wiki
The networking system of Nautilus One is in two parts - Tether and Inter-Enclosure Communication.
Tether
We have 2 variants of a tether.
- RJ45 Cable - We use a 5m long and 6.5mm thick RJ45 cable. We cut its other end and route it through the WetLink Penetrator. Then, we use an RJ45 crimping tool to re-attach the end and connect it to the RPi4 via a USB-A to Ethernet Adapter.
- Cobalt cable - We use a cobalt cable connection (made for underwater ROVs) as a tether. More details here.
The networking configuration for the tether can be found in the relevant manual.
Inter-Enclosure Communication
In a similar manner, we take another 1m long and 6.5mm thick RJ45 Ethernet Cable and strip both of its ends. Then we route it through the two hulls and attach the RJ45 ends using a crimper. For both RPi4 and Nano, the RJ45 ends are connected to the onboard NIC's ports.
The networking configuration for the IEC can be found in the relevant manual.
