The Snowplow JavaScript Tracker is largely based on Anthon Pang's piwik.js, the JavaScript tracker for the open-source Piwik project, and is distributed under the same license as piwik.js, Simplified BSD.

The rest of the Snowplow project is licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0(the "License"); you may not use this software except in compliance with the License.

Unless required by applicable law or agreed to in writing, software distributed under the License is distributed on an "AS IS" BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OF ANY KIND, either express or implied. The loosely-coupled architecture of Snowplow makes it easy to swap out individual sub-system implementations for first- or third-party alternatives. For example, in place of the CloudFront Collector, you can use the Scala Stream Collector.

The Snowplow Analytics team curate some third-party sub-system implementations by git-submoduling those GitHub repositories into the Snowplow repository - see the 2-collectors folder for an example of this.
