Demonstrator Project: NetZeroPlus 👉 https://netzeroplus.ac.uk/project/add-trees/

  • ADD-TREES is a pioneering Artificial Intelligence (AI) research project providing innovative technologies that will aid crucial decisions about land use change.

ADD-TREES has a focus on initiatives to create new woodlands and forests. It aims to feed directly into the UK Government Environment Act 2021 target of planting half a million hectares of new trees to increase carbon capture and other greenhouse gases as part of the UK’s strategy to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

Through four interlinked work packages, researchers at the University of Exeter and University College London will develop user-bespoke digital twins and co-create decision support tools directly with and for policy makers and large landholders. Our engaged users include Defra, MoD, National Trust, Network Rail, Forestry England, National Forest Company and the Woodland Trust.

An explainer video to introduce some of the research our team are undertaking and how this can be used to support tree planting decisions for net zero 2050 commitments.

Woodland Carbon Code Statistics : https://www.woodlandcarboncode.org.uk/about/wcc-statistics-2024

Backed by government, the forest industry and carbon market experts, the Woodland Carbon Code generates high integrity, independently verified carbon units right here in the UK.

It is internationally recognised for high standards of sustainable forest and carbon management and endorsed by ICROA, the umbrella body for carbon reduction and offset providers in the voluntary market.

The code is delivered by Scottish Forestry on behalf of the Forestry Commission, Welsh Government and the Northern Ireland Forest Service.

Forest Research: https://www.forestresearch.gov.uk/tools-and-resources/statistics/forestry-statistics/forestry-statistics-2023/

The latest National Statistics on forestry produced by the Forest Research were released on 28 September 2023 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Detailed statistics are published in the online publication Forestry Statistics 2023, with an extract in Forestry Facts & Figures 2023. They include UK statistics on woodland area, planting, timber, trade, carbon, environment, social, employment and finance & prices as well as some statistics on international forestry. Where possible, figures are also provided for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
