The information about administered drugs in the source can be presented in many ways. Some models rely on standardized vocabularies like WHO Drug, others use free text. Keep in mind that not all the existing terminologies are included in the Athena, and sometimes terms in the Athena lack 'maps to' relations to valid standard concepts, so be prepared to work with free text.

As a general rule, one should seek the most granular target concept. This means, apart from the ingredient, a dose, a dose unit, a route, a dose form, etc., should be included in the source concept for subsequent mapping. Usually we use a pipe character ('|') as a separator, so the source concept might look like 'sildenafil|20|MG|Oral|Tablet'. More information about terminology mapping is here.
