A smart chess bot is an automated chess system designed to assist players by detecting chess moves, analysing game situations, and moving chess pieces automatically. The system combines mechanical, electronic, and software components to provide an interactive chess-playing experience.
The user requirement is to develop a compact and affordable chess bot that can play with humans and perform automatic piece movement. The system should detect the position of chess pieces, process the game using a chess engine, and control a robotic mechanism for moving pieces.
The chess bot uses magnetic chess pieces and Hall effect sensors to identify the position of pieces on the board. An ESP32 or Raspberry Pi acts as the main controller to process sensor data and communicate with the chess engine. The chess engine analyses possible moves and provides the best move decision.
For automatic movement, an XY gantry mechanism with belt drive and motors is used to move a magnetic gripper below or above the chess board. The gripper picks and places pieces according to the calculated move. The system requires accurate positioning and smooth motor control for reliable operation.
The structure of the chess bot should be made using lightweight and economical materials such as acrylic, wood, or plastic to maintain strength while reducing cost. The design should satisfy constraints such as a maximum budget of ₹4000 and maximum size of 1.5 × 1.5 × 1.5 feet.
The smart chess bot requires a low-voltage power supply to operate electronic components like sensors, motors, and controllers. Safety, durability, ease of maintenance, and user-friendly operation are important factors considered during the design process.
Overall, the gathered information helps in selecting suitable components, designing the mechanism, and developing a smart chess bot that can automatically detect, analyse, and execute chess moves.
