I spent a good while playing with the different textures in Metal.wad. I knew I wanted to use that texture pack, but i wanted to find a color palate within and an arrangement that felt immersive, but not too busy. I ended up settling on a template for the walls, floor and ceiling. Adding trim was the next step along with some additional textures for props, and I had my finished result.
This is the initial room you'll enter as you exit your cell. I wanted things to look imposing, but uniform. This is a place that hasn't been attended to in some time. I made the overall headlight visible, but dimmed. I included some light on the wall to give depth and resample malfunctioning or unkept bulbs.
This hall is a good example of the uneven or unkept lighting that I wanted to portray. The walls are rusted and run down, and the floor is of a harsh metal. The prison is abandoned, but still has it's inhabitants. I wanted to make the player really feel like they're exploring a building that was meant to be abandoned with people are still living and trapped inside.
