REFERENCES

Our art is based on the original art from Pokémon Emerald and The Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past. A part of Pokémon Emerald and The Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past, we have only been referenced by other game, Pokémon Mistery Dungeon Red Rescue Team. The pokemon pixel art is from Pokémon Mistery Dungeon Red Rescue Team, a game which pokémon art we think that fits very smoothly in Pokémon Emerald scenarios.

STYLE

The art style in our game will be exactly like the original one, pixel art. We will maintain the style in order to mantain the essence of the original games.

The Legend of Zelda a Link to the PastPokémon Emerald

CAMERA

The camera will also be maintained form the original games. It's a camera that follows the character from above. In our cinematic or narrative moments the camera will be exactly the same. In The Legend of Zelda world, the camera makes a fade when arriving to a limit, in the original Pokémon Emerald game, this didn't happen, but in our Pokémon world this will happen. It can be seen in the images of the style part the camera of both games.

COLOR

About the color in the game, we haven't changed any scenario color and art, so the main color palettes are mantained. We have changed some character's color, but we explain it in the character part. Some of the color palettes of scenarios that we are going to use are:

CHARACTERS

The Legend of Zelda World Characters

In the Legend of Zelda world, all characters will maintain the original art from The Legend of Zelda a Link to the past. We will maintain the art, because our game and its narrative is based in the change of world and our objective is that the player feels and sees everything perfectly cohesive and familiar, so we will not change the original The Legend of Zelda art to maintain this effect. That means that the color, the size, the clothing, etc… will be maintained.

We have only added in the art bible the most important characters from our game, because like we said all the art in all of the characters from this world will be maintained.

Pokémon World Characters

In the Pokémon world the majority of the characters will maintain the original art from Pokémon Emerald because we want the player to feel that he’s in a strange world and he’s the only element that doesn’t fit in the world. That means that the color style and clothing will be exactly the same. The original style is pixel art, with very few details, so the player can’t see facial expressions.

The only exception in our decision of maintaining the art is Red. Red is not an original character of Pokémon Emerald but we want him to take the role of final boss of the pokémon world. In our game Red is being controlled by Ganon, so we have decided to recolor him, so the player can realize that he’s not like any other human in the pokemon world and if the player is familiar to the pokémon franchise he’ll realize that he’s not like original Red. The decision of the recolor was made by looking at the color patterns of Ganon and using them, so the player can see a direct relation between them. Other characteristics like clothing, size, etc… will be maintained.

The pokémon art will be pixel art, because although in Pokémon Emerald the pokémon don’t appear out of the pokeball, the pixel art style suits in a nice way in the art of the world. And all their colors and main traits will also be maintained because we want the player to feel the essence of pokémon. In the image below we can see how the pixel art pokémon fit smoothly in the scenarios.

Pokémon:

The size of some pokémon are approximated, because we don’t know exactly how the original sizes are. In game some sizes will not be realistic, but that’s how the pokemon games usually were. Absol Altaria Banette Blaziken

Two pokémon have been recolored too to fit better in the scenario, these are geodude and golem. Original Geodude Recolored Geodude Original Golem Recolored Golem

Like it’s seen in the scenario, golem and geodude fit better with the recolor.

This could be one of our spritesheets, showing the art of the normal and special attack and other animations.

WORLD & ENVIRONMENT

In our game the The Legend of Zelda world art will be the same like in every aspect to mantain the essence of the game. We don't have day and night and rain cicles, so Hyrule will be a permanent sunny place. The Pokémon world will also mantain it's art. Hoenn is also a region without day and night and rain cicles, so the weather and the ilumination in both worlds will feel similar. There are plenty of images from both worlds in all the document.

OBJECTS

In the world of Zelda, the objects that we are going to use will have the original art of the game, like always that's made to mantain the essence of the game. We will have some new items, but it's art has to be very similar to the original item art to be very cohesive. In the pokemon world, the item art of the objects that we will have will be the original one to also mantain the essence of the game. We will have also one or two new items, and it's art has also to be like the original one to be cohesive too.

ANIMATIONS

The animations of the Zelda world will be the original ones, without changing anything, because we want Link and all the enemies to attack like in the original game. In the pokémon world, with our new combat style we will use animations from Pokémon Mistery Dungeon Red Rescue Team, because they fit really well in our combat style and they are very cohesive with the pokemon sprites.

UI

The UI in the Zelda world will mantain all the original art and style. In the Pokémon world we have designed a new UI. This new UI is a meta UI like the Zelda one and the UI of many Pokémon game. The art will be very similar to the UI and menu art from Pokémon Emerald, mantaining it's color and style. NOTE UI changes documented in UI part.

FONTS

We will use the original fonts from both games, because we want to mantain the game essence, so we won't use or create any other Font. Every font will be used only in it's game.
