Basic Profile

Many of the parts that are introduced with KPBS have a unique profile. This profile is designed to offer a wide flat bottom that allows the parts to be landed/placed on other planets. The rest of the profile is slightly rounded with two edges.

The profile allows the parts to be stacked bottom to bottom to roughly resemble the 2.5m Rockets. This is further discussed in the section Launch into space
To still be connectable to the other stock profiles, KPBS adds several adapters to 1.25m, 2.5m, 3.75m and MK2.

Deployable Parts

There are some parts for KPBS that have the profile, described above, but are able to expand to the sides to create more place for the Kerbals. These parts are:

  • Habitat MK2
  • Planetary Laboratory
  • Planetary Greenhouse

The deployable parts have to functionalities, that distinguishes them from the rest.

  1. The deployable part only have space for kerbals when they are deployed. When retracted, no Kerbal has space in there. The Habitat MK2 can house four Kerbals when deployed, the laboratory and the greenhouse can house two Kerbals.
  2. The light can only be turned on, when the parts are deployed. It automatically switches of, when the retract.

The Greenhouse

Besides being deployable, the Greenhouse also offers the option to 'grow' supplies for the Kerbonauts for various Life-Support mods. The greenhouse does not work like a normal converter though. It needs Kerbals inside of the Greenhouse to be able to operate.
When one Kerbal is sitting inside of the Greenhouse, it can work at a maximum speed of 50%. When two Kerbals are working at the Greenhouse, it can operate at 100% capacity.
