VirtualBox: Create bootable VDI VHD using Ventoy - NicolasLoew/wiki GitHub Wiki

1. Create fixed vdi/vhd (vdi preferred) disk with VirtualBox

2. Enable UEFI Boot BEFORE installing OS in Virtualbox System Settings --> Extended Features --> Enable EFI Boot

3. After installing Linux OS, run vtoyboot.sh in vm:

  • Latest Download: https://github.com/ventoy/vtoyboot/releases
  • Put the downloaded package into the linux distro, decompress it and run vtoyboot.sh as root sudo sh vtoyboot.sh Note that vtoyboot will be updated to support more Linux distros and fix bugs, so please use the latest release.

4. Copy to USB drive, change the suffix to .vtoy and boot with Ventoy After completing the first 2 steps, now you can copy the vdi/vhd file to the Ventoy USB drive and boot it. For facilitate identification and processing, you MUST change the file suffix to .vtoy. This is mandatory.

5. Copy vdi/vhd to USB drive, change the suffix to .vtoy and boot with Ventoy

  • Rename like ubuntu20.04.vdi.vtoy or Manjaro.vhd.vtoy (keep vdi/vhd in file name and add .vtoy)
  • Now you can copy the vdi/vhd file to the Ventoy USB drive and boot it.
    --> For facilitate identification and processing, you MUST change the file suffix to .vtoy. This is mandatory.
