Unfinished Tracks
Below are tracks that began production, but were left unfinished for a variety of reasons. New teams do not have to make any of these tracks, this page is meant to be a record or things that didn't work. If a new team does finish one of these tracks, its information should move into its own Design Document page.
Quarter Mile Quadrahedron
- This track was originally considered for the intermediate difficulty of the first cup.
- It covered a large area of the RIT campus, starting by Gracie's dining hall, up the Quarter Mile walkway, through the Engineering building tunnels into the library, through the SHED, out and under the Quarter Mile Bridge, through the Gordon Field House, and finally through the woods to loop back to the start.
- The size of this track proved to be difficult to portray properly. The size of traversable buildings caused the walkway to become much too long. The number of assets needed to populate this track raised worry about scope from the Content team.
- The team had many conversations about which segments could be cut or changing the track to be one lap instead of three. However, no consensus was reached and the team elected to finish Dorm Room Derby instead.
- Additionally, the game began to grow more distant from RIT theming as time went on, so most landmark based courses were shelved.

Future Work
- The latest Blender model is nearly complete. It has a gap that needs to be filled and to be extruded, then it is ready for greyboxing.
- The track needs to be greyboxed. It may be best to make the buildings in Blender and the rest in Unity.
- Either sections of the track need to be trimmed out, or the track should be refactored to only require one lap to complete. Perhaps even both.
- If the one lap approach is taken, other starting banners could be set a the one third and two thirds of the way through the track to increment the lap count if the game system still requires three laps, and/or to convey that the racers are progressing.
- Then the track will need to be decorated, tested and iterated on.
SHED
- This track was planned as unique and based off of RIT's SHED building. It was planned to have a gimmick where new paths would open on later laps.
- There is a prototype layout of this tack in the Unity project, but it has not been tested.
- After initial prototyping, the SHED was merged into the Quarter Mile Quadrahedron. The team was unsure if players would want to see any areas from that track revisited as their own track.
- Additionally, the game moved away from RIT theming, and most RIT landmark tracks were shelved. This track would likely need new theming, such as a factory owned by Gizmo.
Current State:

Future Work
- Discuss the path switching gimmick with GSP, it may not work with the NPC pathfinding system.
- Discuss changing the theme of the track with the Production team. We have generally shied away from using RIT landmarks.
- Check that the track is scaled properly for the kart. It was made before the 40m road width standard was established.
- Once the track is sized properly, begin greyboxing.
- Then, decorate, add gameplay, iterate, test.
Woods
- The RIT Woods were planned as a beginner or intermediate track.
- This track was originally based on the hiking trails around RIT, but they can easily change to be any kind of wooded area.
- There was some discussion about making this track take place in the winter to allow for snow bank ramps.
- The track was partially integrated into Campus Circuit, but a full nature track is still viable.
Current State:

Future Work
- Check that the track is scaled properly for the kart. It was made before the 40m road width standard was established.
- The entire track likely needs remodeling to fit the new standards.
- New teams may also want to redesign the track layout.
- Once the track is sized properly, begin greyboxing.
- Then, decorate, add gameplay, iterate, test.
Initial Prototypes
Global Village
- Attempt at a unique track with several branching paths around RIT's Global Village plaza and upperclassman housing.
- This track was initially scrapped due to its incoherent design that would likely confuse players.
- It was further shelved as development began to move away from RIT theming.
- This track never made it into Unity, and exists as an example of what not to make.
Blender Model:

Quarter Mile: Simple
- The first iteration of a track based on the RIT Quarter Mile walkway.
- Developed during the prototyping week.
- Deemed simple to the point of boring, the track consisted of a simple loop.
- A more interesting version with no center divider would have allowed players in the lead to interact with those lagging behind, and vice-versa.
- The track did not leave the prototyping stage.
Blender Model:

Quarter Mile: Complex
- A slightly more interesting version of the Quarter Mile: Simple track. Instead of being a loop, racers would take an upward path and drive above some iconic RIT buildings like the SHED and Student Alumni Union.
- This track never left the prototyping stage and was shelved in favor of the Quarter Mile Quadrahedron.
