Wimsey - NicheInterests/mistfunk GitHub Wiki
Following the TRIUMF particle accelerator at UBC being hooked up to academic broadband, Wimsey represented the first opportunity for civilians in area code 604 to buy consumer-grade [Internet] access ("News, Gopher, ARCHIE, Mosaic"). Established by Richard Pitt and Stuart Lynne, it was Canada's first commercial ISP and western Canada's main Internet gateway from 1986-1993 before ceding ground to a number of smaller ISPs (locally including Infomatch, Uniserve, Mortimer, Blaze and so forth), all of which were eventually consolidated by Rogers and Telus, the cable and telco.
