TST (The Screaming Tomato) - NicheInterests/mistfunk GitHub Wiki
In August of 1994, with help from Eerie of Sarcastic Toaster and Access Denied of Field of Eggplants, Nitnatsnoc (with co-SysOp [Cthulu], his classmate) opened The Screaming Tomato (TST) BBS to the public, just in time for us to try to pick up the pieces of iMPERiAL and form MiSTiGRiS -- which it naturally served as the new WHQ for.
In addition to serving as Mist's main hub, over its nearly-three-year lifespan (disconnected May Day 1997, succeeded by [The Jade Monkey]) it was also WHQ for the local lit group Cenobite, some kind of HQ for Fire Graphics (I gather that affil was primarily ceremonial in nature), a [distro site] for the tracker groups [EuphoniX] and [Happy Fetus Records], the [Recoil] e-mag and the short-lived artgroup WiND, and (following Nitty's retirement from Mist), subsequently an Integrity and then ACiD Productions member board. (Technically Cthulu had landed it an iMPERiAL member board affiliation, but the group died prior to the board's grand opening.)
In addition to its being a critical node on our KiTSCHNet, other echomail networks it hosted at one time or another included [TABNet], Alpha Centauri's AlphaNet, ACiD's AgoraNet, and the local SiHFNet.
Formerly operating at the (604) 430-8805 phone number, the software it used was first [Telegard] then [Renegade], and the only thing you need to know about the hardware it ran on is that the machine was not equipped with a [monkey fondulator drive].
A long, multi-part tribute to the BBS, exploring its legacy through the sum of art drawn for it, was shared to Mist's first post-revival social media outlet, Tumblr, on the occasion of the 21st anniversary of TST's establishment: part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, and part 5.
