Superunknown - NicheInterests/mistfunk GitHub Wiki

Circa 1995, Soundgarden fan Flood Myth of Bleach opened the doors to Superunknown, "the yellow pages of the scene". It acted similarly to Yahoo! in its early "Jerry and David's Guide to the World Wide Web" days: the contents were just a tiled background image and a long list of hyperlinked URLs to the hastily improvised homepages of underground computer art crews, typically served via the free hosts and registrars (Geocities, Angelfire, Tripod, ml.org) of that era (here's ours!), without a great deal of curation or organization -- possibly just with new additions added to the bottom of the list.

Possibly on the basis of this early entry to the field, Flood Myth spent some time affiliated with ACiD Productions' ACiD Information Systems (AIS) division.

Superunknown was formerly located at http://www.csusm.edu:80/public/guests/fm/su.html. (Not usefully mirrored by the Wayback Machine.)

A 1995 solicitation for listings can be seen on 16c.

Superunknown was a good start, but it was succeeded by [Acheron], which had quite a bit more of a Web 2.0 thing going on.
