Inspector Dangerfuck - NicheInterests/mistfunk GitHub Wiki

For six months in 1994, [Eerie] drew ANSI art screens for iMPERiAL and RELiC packs featuring an original recurring protagonist, the detective Inspector Dangerfuck! The rest of the scene was more concerned with crudely apeing Jim Lee, Rob Liefeld, Sam Kieth, Erik Larsen, and Todd MacFarlane, but 33 was convinced his original dude had the juice. Doodled with loose [toon]y flavour as he might have seen in the bandes dessinées he grew up around, the characters in these screens didn't struggle against the absence of realistic flesh tones in the ANSI palette but just quietly embraced Fauvism like the owner of an IBM PC with a CGA card might. Dangerfuck was patently a comics character, but with only three canonical exceptions (one tall comic strip and two programmed ANSI movies) all of his appearances were single-panel vignettes. By the end of 1994 Eerie had moved on from Dangerfuck to his masked hero Noise, but the fans never forgot and Nitnatsnoc wound up drawing a couple of tributes.

In the first decade of the 21st century Dangerfuck was mistakenly cited, via [everything2], in a couple of scholarly tomes as a precursor to webcomics, a claim that [Kirkman] journalistically evaluated at [Break Into Chat] starting in late 2025 at https://breakintochat.com/blog/2025/12/24/ansi-art-and-webcomics-filling-in-the-blanks/
