The [Vancouver Art Gallery] left its original site (a 1931 art deco building at 1145 West Georgia Street, demolished in 1985 to make way for a Trump Tower) and moved into its current (2025) home, the former Vancouver Law Courts, in 1983, hosting an opening exhibition "Art and Artists: 1931 to 1983". Some artists local to area code 604 were included in that opening show, but many were not, and in response the local art community threw a "Salon des Refusés" called The October Show in a nearby Yaletown warehouse. It was a big hit and was followed a year later by The Warehouse Show. Following that, the community of exhibiting local artists got organized and formed the Artropolis organization (the A. T. Eight Artropolis Society, operating from 1988 through 2005) to take regular check-ups on the local art community with group shows of residents every few years, starting in 1987. The next was in 1990, then in 1993 in the former Woodwards building -- an exhibition that would prove formative on the emerging [TABNet] online community. The next Artropolis exhibition took place in 1997 and was the controversial Browser show, which made a big impression on Cthulu. They were able to present two more exhibitions, in 2001 and 2003, before losing momentum and wrapping up their activities.
