At the beginning of our project we had a lot of ideas for which we can develop an IoT application. We thought about daily problems, needs and market analysis. To gather our ideas we had a brainstorming session. This included a description of the situation, problem, idea, and solution options. After ranking and filtering our ideas, we decided to work on an IoT solution for brewing your personalizes coffee in an office environment using an HC (Home Connect) enabled coffee machine. Our idea is to simplify the steps of getting a coffee. For our scenario we chose the BSH (Bosch Siemens Haushaltsgeräte) coffee machine in the building of Herman Hollerith Center. We named our project Rubi the Brewbot. Moreover, we used further tools to make our idea clear (Personas, Canvas Methods...).

Situation

You want to brew your personalized coffee in an office space, using an HC enabled coffee machine.

Problem

Selecting the coffee profile on the HC coffee machine is time consuming. The coffee machine has to heat up and you have to choose your coffee manually. Using the HC app does not make it easier. Too many steps are required. This is why a queue in the kitchen can form.

Idea

The idea is to automatically select the preferred coffee profile on the BSH coffee machine when you are at the coffee machine.

Solution Options

• Option 1: You bring a personal Amazon dash button with you. When you are at the coffee machine you push the button and your personalized coffee comes out.

• Option 2: The cup identifies the personalized coffee profile.

The first option was not attractive because it is not convenient for everyone, so we decided to work on the second option.
