Switch - Nebroc351/SecondWind-Guide GitHub Wiki

Prerequisites:

  • A Nintendo Switch console
  • A physical or digital copy of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild v1.6.0 and it DLCs (required for most mods including Second Wind)
  • A device (ideally a computer) capable of reading/writing on a micro SD card running Windows, Linux or MacOS with at least 20GB of free space
  • A micro SD card with at least 20GB of free space

Modding your console:

First things first, if you want to play with mods or play on emulator in order to play with mods, you need an hacked console. Note that modding your console will not restrict any of it usage, and will in fact open new ones with mods, custom themes etc.
If your console is already modded feel free to head to the next section of this guide.

Not all Switch can be soft-modded (through an exploit) but all can be modded using a modchip. For more informations about modding your Switch we recommend to follow this guide.

Dumping the game:

In order to install Second Wind and eventually play on emulator you will have to dump your copy of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and transfer it to your PC (yes, even if you want to play mods directly on console). Note that the full dump is about 15GB, so make sure to have at least 20GB free on both your micro SD card and PC.
There are 2 ways to dump the game, both using nxdumptool-rewrite and requiring Lockpick_RCM in order to dump your prod.keys that will also be required if you want to play on emulator and to install Zadig on your PC if you want to dump directly to your PC. If not you can simply dump to the micro SD card and move the files to the PC later.
