The car in the city

Client

The client is a dutch newspaper called the "Volkskrant".
The Volkskrant relates to our course of data visualization because they try to inform the readers with a story/article about what the data from big files of data actually show/tell us.

Assignment

For the Volkskrant we are taking a look at the RDW datasets to find interesting insights for a potential article about the car in the city. The subject is "the car in the city" and the datasets contains all kind of information about parking. But we're free to explore other data as well that has to do with the car in the city.

In short, we are going to discover insights in the data so the Volkskrant journalists can write a story about it.

Research

I will be researching by analyzing the data and creating research questions that I will be trying to answer by visualizing the data. I will be writing down all questions that come to mind when analyzing the data. Do these questions raise other questions? The answers to these questions will be my insights.

Research tips

  • Looking at time-related data is a good way to find a story.
  • Also looking at different places in The Netherlands might give a great story.
  • Finally analyzing differences in costs might show a story.

Deliverable

In the end, I will show my insights in form of an interactive website where the data is visualized so the journalists can write their article about it.
