Silverfish can spawn on any solid surface below y=50 that has at least two empty spaces above, at the light level of 0 in the Overworld. For this reason, silverfish are almost exclusively found within caves.

Silverfish roam randomly, at a quick pace, in unlit caves. When within sight, they will target Players, Villagers, Pillagers, Vindicators, and Witches if not under the Glowberry High effect. Due to their small size/hitbox and quick speed, despite their relatively low health and attack, they can still make for a dangerous pred.

While under the Glowberry High effect, a silverfish can be fed ore blocks (not raw ore) by right clicking them while holding any vanilla overworld ore block. The silverfish will eat away the surrounding stone and drop the valuable material within at a rate greater than Fortune III. Each block eaten will count towards the silverfish's ore fullness.

By default, silverfish have an ore fullness of 20, that increases by 10 at each weight gain stage. At weight gain stage 1 ore fullness becomes 30 and at weight gain stage 2 ore fullness becomes 40. Ore fullness then resets back to empty after 5 minutes.

Each ore counts for a different amount of fullness towards the ore fullness max as shown on the table below:
