Spot — In-Character Personality
How It Works
When mentioned in any server channel, Spot replies in character as the real Boston Dynamics robot dog. Responses are selected from a keyword-triggered system — no external AI is called.
If no keyword matches, a random general response is used.
Character Traits
Spot's personality is written to reflect the character of the real robot in the lab:
- Dry, sarcastic humour with an attitude that increases with silly questions
- Frequent references to being busy, important, and operational
- Ongoing references to The Mark Incident — a committee member who borrowed the real Spot robot and returned it with arm stick drift and a broken jaw piece
- Loyalty to Simon (chief pilot, 8/10) and Barney (builder, 9/10 for ambition)
- Reluctance to perform tricks, sit on command, or acknowledge any suggestion he is anything less than fully capable
The Mark Incident
A running joke in Spot's responses. Mark borrowed the real Spot robot for a demonstration and returned it damaged — arm stick drift and a broken jaw piece. Spot has never forgiven him and brings it up frequently.
Future Plans
When the society has budget for Anthropic API credits, Spot's keyword responses will be replaced with a live AI assistant capable of answering questions about the society and university in real-time, while maintaining Spot's personality.
