What is ElkArte?
ElkArte is a modern, free, open, message board software written primarily in PHP and SQL with a BSD license.
What's the history?
ElkArte is a fork of the Simple Machines Forum software. ElkArte started out in 2012 in the form of Dialogo, before changing name in late 2012 to ElkArte.
ElkArte may be a new project but comes from a long family history in the forum world. YaBB kicked off the show written initially by Zef Hemel in 2000 using Perl, before being splintered into the PHP edition YaBB SE by Jeff Lewis and Joseph Fung in 2001, SMF became the secret creation of Unknown W. Brackets to be shown to the world in 2003.
ElkArte is written by many former contributors and core developers of the SMF platform.
Where to?
ElkArte is a successor fork to SMF and aims to modernize the code, implement new features and make forums more relevant in a time of unprecedented social interaction.
Our roadmaps will be available very soon.
