Survival - Momo-Softworks/Cold-Sweat GitHub Wiki

This is a general guide for leveraging Cold Sweat's features to survive in a normal playthrough. It isn't all-encompassing, but should give a general idea of what the mod has to offer.

Early-Game

Immediate temperature sources

Upon first spawning, the easiest method of temperature control is to find a body of naturally-occurring water or lava, depending on the biome. These will cool/heat the player respectively. Lava is much more effective than water, so a small amount can go a long way. Later in a playthrough, it might be worthwhile to bring a lava bucket with you if you are venturing into a cold area.

Waterskins

If the player has access to leather, waterskins are an essential item for easily managing temperature while exploring. They can be placed in the hotbar to provide a lasting effect, or right-clicked to be consumed instantly.

To use waterskins, they must be warmed up or cooled down in a boiler or icebox. After being given fuel, these blocks can process up to 9 waterskins in 50 seconds. When the waterskin changes texture, it is halfway done.

Boiler & Icebox

The boiler and icebox can also be used for small-scale heating and cooling when a smokestack is placed on top of it. When given redstone power, it will emit a cooling or heating effect in the nearby area that gradually increases in strength.

Armor Insulation

This is an important method of preparation. Various items can be applied to the player's armor to insulate it, making the player more resistant to certain temperatures. This can be performed at the sewing table. See Armor Insulation for more details.

Preparation: The Nether

The Nether is a particularly hostile environment, even hotter than the desert or badlands biomes. As such, it is important that the player be adequately prepared to enter the dimension.

Soulspring Lamp

This item is nearly essential for venturing the Nether- though it is possible to brave this dimension without it with the proper equipment. The soulspring lamp passively emits a small cooling aura when held in the player's hand while in the Nether. The lamp will make a sound and illuminate when it is being used.

Post-Nether

Soul Sprouts

The soulspring lamp gradually consumes fuel as it is used, which can be replenished by soul sprouts. These can be found naturally growing in stalks on patches of soul sand. They are most common in the soul sand valley biome, but they are present almost everywhere. Soul sprouts can also be consumed to temporarily decrease the player's body temperature by 20. This effect lasts for 1 minute and does not stack.

Hearth

The hearth is a direct upgrade to the smokestack & boiler/icebox, crafted from Nether materials. It has a larger effect radius and double the effectiveness.
