Transport
There are two nether transport networks, one at ground level (or anyway below the roof), and one just above the nether roof. Above the roof is the easiest to navigate.
Nether Transport - ground level
The nether hub is a large area carpeted with a map of the overworld. Portals are mainly within sight of each other and well signed.
An automated railway station is under construction by MrTrousers; signs indicate which lines are functioning so far.
Paths out of the nether hub at the NW and SW, SE corners lead to:
- NW path to nether fortress with blaze spawner and wither skeleton farm, also to the iron farm built by Korvar and updated by DgC, and the guardian farm for sea lanterns and prismarine.
- SW path to various out-of-the-way housing, and also the BIG slime farm and skeleton farm (B) built by MAMP (a train goes part way).
- SE to the End Portal Stronghold, Deadsville, the Rainbow Castle, and Roundwell
- North end of the hub is a portal leading into the 0,0 desert, where the squid ink farm is located.
Railways out of the nether hub, not counting little internal railways over walking distances:
- NE corner - Railway to Mesa and Ice Biomes by JK. This way for coloured clay! (Spur at 539 / -104 to Ice Spikes biome for mining packed ice.)
- E edge - Great Nether Railway to the Woodland Mansion. This is entirely glassed and paved, and is probably the realm's biggest single build, made by Korvar.
- Straight up - through the nether roof to the XP and gold farm
- A foot stairway ascend from the east of the hub to meet this train at the nether roof. This is also the route to the Wither-killing space
- North and down - to the jungle biomes and skeleton farm (A)
- South and down - to Nova Bioma, with jungle and taiga biomes.
- SE from near the Rainbow Castle and Deadsville portals to Brightyon (warm ocean), with intermediate stop to change for the Pillager Outpost.
Nether transport - roof level
Above the nether roof is a network of carpet paths. It's safer up here (no mobs spawn at all), there's nothing in the way, and it's faster if you have elytra because you can fly more-or-less dead straight.
Portals at the top of water elevators in the overworld connect to nether roof portals, at Spawntown, the Iron Farm, the Guardian Farm, the Rainbow Castle, Brightyon, and a new water elevator complex in the desert for the Gold/XP farm. The desert water elevator also has a section all the way up to near build height, so you don't need the railway to the farm any more.
Routes from the nether hub:
- Cyan = Guardian farm
- White = Iron Farm
- Yellow = Gold farm (short)
- Orange = New Blaze Farm
- Rainbow = Rainbow Castle
- Grey = the Hole
Routes from the Rainbow Castle:
- Rainbow = back to nether hub (!)
- Lime = Raid Farm (emeralds)
- Magenta = Shulker farm
- Pink = Flushing mob farm / music disc farm / Cardingyon Sheds & Flying Bum
- Red = Brickworks
- Brown = Pillager outpost (no water elevator)
- Blue = Brightyon on Sea
- Ice boat (a little away) = Clapyon Junction and then Clactyon on Lava, new nether biomes, many others
There are several farms and other points of interest on the ice boatway network on the nether roof, which has a number of junctions. There's a minecart railtrack on top for ordinary speed travel. Or you can use a boat, but you must align yourself perfectly. You can do this yourself by using F3 and making sure you are pointing at precisely 0.0, 90.0, 180.0 or 270.0 degrees as appropriate before right-clicking to place your boat. This can be fiddly/impossible, so you can use the alignment boat stations to help. These each have an alignment boat that is perfectly aligned already. (Don't move it!) To use it, have a boat in your hand and stand behind the alignment boat, facing the direction of travel and looking a couple of pixels up from the base of the alignment boat. Right click on the alignment boat to get in, which aligns you perfectly, and then, without moving or turning or changing where you are looking at all, keeping your mouse still, right click again to place the boat, and right click a third time to get in. (Don't worry if it's too far away - once your boat is aligned it's safe to get out of the alignment boat with Shift, walk forward, and then right click to get in to your boat.) Once safely in your boat, just press W to move forward. It's safe to look around but do not rotate left or right with A or D while in the boats on the boatway, you'll fall off. And definitely don't do that while in the the alignment boat, you'll misalign it again, and fixing it is irksome.
There's also an ice boatway test track that runs along the nether roof from near the Rainbow Castle portal to near-ish the Iron Farm. This is more forgiving than the other network because it has fences to keep you in on each side, so you don't have to be perfectly aligned. It also saves on ice by having gaps between each ice block.
