USA! USA! USA!

The SD45-2 was an improvement on the successful SD45 locomotive, and had upgrades similar to other Dash 2 locomotives; modular electronics, an AR10 alternator, modified traction motor blower duct-work, and (for the case for six axle locomotives) a new HT-C truck design to ride on. The SD45-2 however had one particular difference between it's previous counterpart: It lacked the signature flared radiators that the SD45 was famous for, taking for a much more standardized flat hood look.

The SD45-2 was built between 1972 and 1974, however only 136 units were built, with 90 of those going to the Santa Fe railroad. The rest were rostered by Clinchfield (18), Seaboard Coast Line (15), and Erie Lackwanna (13)
