The SD39-2 was an unproduced V12 engine version of the SD40-2 locomotive. Much like the other Dash 2 improvements, the SD39-2 improved over the SD39 with an AR10 alternator, upgraded modular electronics, and new HTC trucks that provided more tractive adhesion to the rails. While no railroads purchased the SD39-2, the model still existed in official EMD offerings.
