The SD39 was the first six axle offering which employed the turbocharged V12-645 engine, sold as a fuel-efficient alternative to the SD40. 54 were built between 1968 and 1970 for ATSF (20), SP (26), Illinois Terminal (6), and Minneapolis Northfield and Southern (2).

###Notes:

⚠: Not verified or educated guess

(1): Although listed as Electrical Blowers, they behave like Mechanical Blowers in PT2. All dynamic brake fans use a DC motor powered by tapping the grids, and engine RPM increases when the traction motors need cooling.
