The RS-1 was the predecessor to the RS-2 and the roadswitcher counterpart to the S-1 and S-2. Overall a very solid design, it remained in production even after locomotives with 251s were being produced, and ended up having the longest production span of any diesel locomotive to this date. As a result of its large numbers and extremely robust design, many survive to this day.
