The NW2 was an uprated and upgraded NW. Now no longer true to its name (the N in NW stood for Nine hundred horsepower), the NW2 became the EMD switcher offering postwar, selling a whopping 1145 from both EMD and GMD. It was succeeded by the SW7 when EMD brought their switcher offerings up to speed with the rest of the market at 1200 HP.
EMD also offered the NW2 as two cow-calf models, the TR2 and TR3. Both models are virtually identical to the normal NW2, with one (or, in the case of the TR3, two) of the units lacking a cab and control stands.
