GP18 A&R

The EMD GP18 was an improved version of the GP9, utilizing a 16 cylinder 567D1 engine rated at 1800 horsepower. The GP18 was released concurrently to the GP20, establishing the concept of cataloging a turbocharged and roots-blown version of essentially the same locomotive, a practice which EMD continued for over 10 years.

Production ran from December of 1959 to November of 1963, with 405 units produced. An oddball group among this number was 100 of Missouri Pacific's units, which rode on AAR Type B trucks from traded-in ALCO FA-1, and FA-2 locomotives.

⚠: Not Verified or Educated Guess

(1): Some GP18s rode on trade in trucks; the following numbers would reflect the donor locomotive: Top Speed, Model Base Speed, Generator Max Current, Max TM Current, Max Continuous TM Current.

(2): 6-BL or 24-RL optional.

(3): If built with GP7/9 style air tanks mounted cross-wise behind the fuel tank, the Main Reservoir Volume would be 42.9 cubic feet.
