The C855 was designed as a competitor to EMD's DD35 and GE's U50. Boasting 500 extra horsepower, the C855 certainly had an advantage power wise, unfortunately the only three units built were orphans on UP's almost all EMD and GE roster, not helping is the fact these units came delivered with their second electrical cabinet wired backwards, causing quite the show to bystanders. These units very much being orphans only lasted a short life of 7 years, all three being scrapped shortly afterwards.

Notes
⚠: Not Verified or Educated Guess
(1): Late production C855s could be bought with Alco's two-axle Hi-Ad trucks, boosting the adhesion to 34.5%.
(2): Later in production the gearing options changed, making the base speed 67 MPH and the max speeds 67, 75, 79, or 84 MPH
(3): Later Alcos had newer GE 752 traction motors, changing this rating to 1195 Amps.
