The C628 was the direct replacement for the unbuilt C624, phasing it out before any Century units hit the production floor. Despite the fact that it holds the highest production of US built centuries, they were rather troublesome electrically, having an absurd amount of transition steps; due to this, there are only three left, none of which are operational.

Notes

⚠: Not Verified or Educated Guess

(1): Late production C628s could be bought with Alco's three-axle Hi-Ad, boosting the adhesion to 29%.

(2): Later in production the gearing options changed, making the base speed 67 MPH and the max speeds 67, 75, 79, or 84 MPH

(3): Later Alcos had newer GE 752 traction motors, changing this rating to 1195 Amps.
