The C425 was first introduced in late 1964 when Erie Lackawanna allegedly asked Alco if they could produce a 2500 horsepower version of the C424, finding a reasonable amount of orders the model became standard in the Century series line up. Due to it's solid and reliable design, C425s are plentiful on Alco short lines, making up the majority of GVT's four-axle power.

Notes

⚠: Not Verified or Educated Guess

(1): Late production C425s could be bought with Alco's two-axle Hi-Ad trucks, boosting the adhesion to 29%.

(2): Later in production the gearing options changed, making the base speed 67 MPH and the max speeds 67, 75, 79, or 84 MPH

(3): Later Alcos had newer GE 752 traction motors, changing this rating to 1195 Amps.
