Episode 18 - The Eventual Fourth Cherry Blossom

Before she graduates, the second-year students, Kozue, Tsuzuri, and Megumi, decide to make Sachi, to whom they owe a great deal of gratitude, a song that will “make her cry her eyes out!” (according to Megumi)

Kozue:
Hmmm…

Tsuzuri:
If we’re gonna make a new song, let’s get on with it.

Kozue:
I suppose… you’re not wrong, but…

Megumi:
Hey, guys… Where’s the firsties?

Kozue:
Around this time of year the first years are tasked with setting up the rehearsal venue for the graduation ceremony. We did it last year, don’t you remember?

Tsuzuri:
That was the last time it was just the three of us.

Megumi:
Oh yeah, that was a thing… Well, I sure am glad to be a second year.

Kozue, Tsuzuri & Megumi:

Megumi:
…So Sachi-senpai really did come by earlier, huh?

Kozue:
She certainly did. And for… one final visit.

Megumi:
I guess not even someone as upbeat as Sachi-senpai could avoid getting a little sad before graduation.

Kozue:
You… have a point there. She is about to depart the school she spent three years in, after all. I don’t know how I’ll feel when that time comes for me, either. …But…

Tsuzuri:
…You think that’s not all?

Kozue & Megumi:
!

Megumi:
…You think so, Tsuzuri?

Tsuzuri:
I dunno. It might just be like Kozu’s saying. But… it’s not like she wants to stay another year.

Kozue:
Hmhm, I doubt anyone would want to be held back. But you’re right. When I looked into her eyes, I think I saw more than just reluctance… It felt as if she had some regrets.

Tsuzuri:
Sachi has… regrets…

Megumi:
Well, if you both think so too, then there’s nothing else to say about it.

Kozue:
Megumi?

Megumi:
I don’t really know why, but it’s just… Thinking about Sachi-senpai spending what little time she has left at this school looking like that just… It really annoys me. Especially since we spent so much time doing all this stuff for her, you know?

Tsuzuri:
Yeah. I think so too. So, wanna go?

Megumi:
You’re not one for stalling, huh? You’ve gotten really sincere, huh…

Kozue:
…The issue of your annoyance aside… You’re right, I’d– at least until the end, I’d like to be a good junior.

Sachi:
You really surprised me, calling me here outta nowhere like that… You know that I’m not the student council president anymore, right? I can still get the key, but still.

Kozue:
Apologies, I just felt that this would be the best place for us to settle down and have a conversation.

Sachi:
Hm?

Sachi:
…Y’know, it’s been a while since we had the four of us together like this.

Sachi:
Oh, I had some of Tsuzuri’s favorite snacks… maybe there’s still some left…

Tsuzuri:
Thanks.

Kozue:
It wouldn’t hurt to show a little more restraint…

Sachi:
Nah, it’s fine. Hm, I think it was just on top of this cabinet here…

Megumi:
Alright, I’ll go get ‘em. You don’t gotta act so big, you tiny little thing.

Sachi:
Don’t call me tiny!

Tsuzuri:
This reminds me. Kozu, back then…

Kozue:
?

Tsuzuri:
When Sachi was reaching to get something from the top shelf, and you got behind her and lifted her from under her arms.

Kozue:
Ah…

Tsuzuri:
And then for the whole day, Sachi didn’t say anything and just stared out the window until the sun set.

Kozue:
I simply thought it was a good idea at the time…!

Megumi:
…By the way, Sachi-senpai…

Sachi:
Hm… what’s… up… Hm?

Megumi:
Is there something other than graduation that’s got you all sentimental? We came here ‘cause it kinda felt like that to us.

Megumi:
We’re pretty dependable juniors now, see?

Sachi:
Guess so.

Sachi:
Hm… yep, I’m just as pathetic as ever, huh? Was it that obvious?

Tsuzuri:
You and Kozu are pretty hard to understand, but I’ve known you two for a really long time.

Kozue:
This isn’t about me… Sachi-senpai, if there’s something bothering you, would you like to talk about it? We just… don’t want to see you spending the rest of your time until graduation looking so worried.

Sachi:
…I… see.

Sachi:
So, what are your juniors to you?

Kozue:
…What… are they, hm? It would be quite difficult to express in just a few words…

Tsuzuri:
School idols… or something…?

Megumi:
Kinda… everything, in a way.

Sachi:
Alright, that’s plenty enough. It’s like I said before, they’re very important encounters for you three. Personally, I’m proud of them as if they were my own juniors.

Sachi:
Just like your happiness toward your own first years… When you three joined, it was like… you saved me.

Megumi:
What, these problem children?

Tsuzuri:
Coming from you?

Sachi:
Ahaha, but yeah.

Sachi:
When the third year seniors graduated… I was the only one left in the club. …If no new students decided to join the club, I would have been the sole member… In other words, the club was very close to being disbanded.

Kozue:

Sachi:
I owe a lot to those third year seniors. Being the director’s granddaughter, I used to only do as I was told… but they gave me a path I could walk on my own. The path of a school idol.

Sachi:
So I was honestly really scared. If no one joined… If no one was interested in the School Idol Club… All that history that our seniors built up, that had accumulated over the years… I would’ve wasted it all.

Tsuzuri:
I’m glad it didn’t end up like that.

Sachi:
Yeah. Because I was blessed enough to have the most amazing juniors.

Sachi:
I was blessed to have my seniors. And I was truly blessed to have my juniors. But that’s probably why…

Sachi:
Even though I was what linked those two times, I’m not so sure I managed to give you what my seniors gave to me. And well… seeing as I’m telling you guys all of this, I’m even less sure.

Megumi:

Sachi:
When I think back on it, I see all the times I failed… All I did was hurt you… and you always needed to save me.

Sachi:
So at the very least, I–

Tsuzuri:
Kozu, Megu.

Sachi:
Huh?

Tsuzuri:
Is it alright if I say something kinda selfish?

Megumi:
Go for it.

Kozue:
Normally, this is where I’d say that it depends… but seeing as we’re probably thinking the same thing, it’s not a problem.

Sachi:
What are you three doing–?

Tsuzuri:
Listen, Sachi. Here’s our 150%, just for you.

When I close my eyes, I still hear it now Your voice, in the song that moved me on that day But even right now, I don’t think I’ve grown enough To catch up to that big smile that you gave

When I close my eyes, and I look upon All the tears that we all shed there on that day Now I think I know what they all meant, because they were really tears Of love, weren’t they?

In this unbelievable, truly frightening world All of my courage came directly from you And from here on, the promises we made Will live through and through

All of the countless miracles that we’ve experienced until now If we had never met, they would never have come true. All the love we have couldn’t ever be enough With these petals, we’ll keep walking forward for you.

Sachi:

Tsuzuri:
Sorry. I know you really wanted to give us what you were given, but… We really wanted to give this to you.

Kozue:
This is how we feel.

Megumi:
…Listen, Sachi-senpai. The only reason we’re even here is because you were there.

Sachi:

Kozue, Tsuzuri & Megumi:
This is the end… of the 102nd Class’ Hasunosora School Idol Club.
