How to reduce lag when using eMixedNiteMC

This theme can be heavy on the UI depending on the number of extensions you use. To offer all these options (almost a hundred), the theme must use a lot of triggers, images for all the banners and more. So we must be sure everything is optimized to ensure we have the smoothest experience possible while using eMixedNiteMC! After following this, you should see a noticeable change in performance if you were not already doing this.

Step 1

First I use the plugin Game Media Processor from azuravian with these settings to resize every images.

Media Type Width x Height
Cover 385 x 545
Background 1295 x 766
Icon 256 x 256
Logo 500 x 300

Be sure to use the "Resize" panel with both "Keep Aspect Ratio" and "Only Shrink" options enabled. That way it will only downsize any images that's bigger than the Width x Height chosen while keeping the original aspect ratio of the images so its not deformed.

Be sure to not check the Don't Backup Images option. So if you want to try different setting or did something wrong, you can revert the images back to default.

Game Media Processor

I use 2k resolution and the settings for resizing the images does not affect the quality. If you run on 4K, adjust the settings to get better images resolution.

Step 2

I then use the plugin Image Cache Size Saver from darklinkpower to ease up things a little bit more! I do this after I added a few games but technically you could do this anytime you add a game.

Image Cache Size Saver

To use the plugin, right-click on Playnite icon to show the menu, select extensions and choose the option under Image Cache Size Saver called Process Images in Cache. This can take a while for large library so be patient.

Last Step

After that we will make sure a specific option is disabled in the extension System Checker. The option is called Button with details under Appearance in the Add-ons menu. This option alone make a big difference on certain game so if you experience lag while using eMixedNiteMC and are using System Checker, check to see if the option is disabled.

System Checker

After these step, if you still have a laggy UI, try disabling Background Changer if you use it or try disabling the option that shows data in GameView from Success Story and How Long to Beat (Options found in the Add-ons Menu).

Its also good to know that when changing view, Grid View to Detail view for example, the UI will be laggy until Playnite restart.
