Investigators that suffer some extreme form of trauma, either physical or mental, can manifest new Attributes as a result of their experience.
Players can request that massive damage or critical madness penalties be reduced in exchange for a negative alteration to some other aspect of their Investigator. Gaining a bad Story in your Storyline is a common result.
If this request is approved by the Moderator then the player immediately performs the attribute adjustment and reduces the damage or madness by the level the Moderator specifies.
Players should only make these requests knowing that the Moderator will be compelled to choose a suitably traumatic alternative. There is no roleplaying requirement, but the triggering event should be roleplayed in a dramatic enough fashion to justify such a radical character shift.
Skill levels are normally not effected by traumatic events, though it is entirely possible that a trauma could leave an Investigator unwilling to engage in specific activities in the future.
