Character Advancement - LunarNeil/Call-of-Cthulhu-Campaign GitHub Wiki

Investigators know that every adventure could likely be their last, and the struggle is as much to survive as it is to succeed. If they do return are a different person than when they first left, with new outlooks, new traits, and skills that have been tested by the struggle to survive.

This process of character development is referred to as Advancement, and Investigators have several ways of advancing over their lifespan, but each is done with Moderator approval and includes roleplaying as a significant aspect.

Brief summaries of each form of Advancement are as follows:

Skill Progression

Investigator uses Skills in an interesting or dramatic fashion. Moderators have an opportunity to reward the player by improving that Skill directly. Skills must be actively used to be improved in this way.

Arbitrated Attribute Development

Player proposes a desired change, such as adding a new Skill or advancing a Storyline. Moderator has a choice of approval, and then sets a roleplaying requirement. Once the proposed change has been adequately roleplayed, the player may alter their sheet accordingly.

Traumatic Attribute Development

Investigator suffers some massive trauma. Players proposes that the consequences of this event be reduced if the player accepts an undesirable change. Moderator has a choice of approval, and then alters the player's sheet accordingly.
