Archetype: The Profiteer - LunarNeil/Call-of-Cthulhu-Campaign GitHub Wiki

The Archetypal Profiteer is an exploitative manipulator, capable of almost any deed if it furthers their own goals. Profiteers are not solely motivated by money. Often it is status and independence they really seek, with greed as just the common expression this desire. Their intense competition into obsession, as the importance of getting more exceeds the enjoyment of what they have.

The defining characteristic of a Profiteer Archetype a never-ending competition for status and freedom. They exemplify the ruthlessness and single-mindedness of the most successful individuals, with an entire value system built upon the acquisition of whatever it is that motivates them.

Their Archetypal struggle characterizes the hollow nature of a life lived only for gain. They would be heroes if they had ethics, and would be truly happy if they knew how to appreciate what they have already won. They are rarely aware of their own unhappy state as the Profiteer is the archetype most capable of self deception. To them the world is a free-for-all divided between winners and losers. They will believe whatever they have to believe in order to keep winning.

Profiteers are great Archetypes for players that want to play a lousy human being that can still understand the value of good teamwork. Normally these are the types that make it half the way through a movie before something kills them off, to audience applause. They can be great plot movers, ready to believe in an ancient myth if there's a potential for profit, and they also have plenty of opportunity for redemption once they find something worth appreciating.
