Display Modes - Lincoln-Cybernetics/Cellular-Explorer GitHub Wiki

Cellular explorer has five display modes, all can be accessed from the the "Display" menu in the master control panel.

The Classic mode:
This mode re-creates the classic look of cellular automata from early computer screens. Positive states (or binary ON states) appear in green, while binary Off, and non-positive
numbered states appear black.

The Multicolor mode: This mode adds some color to the visual experience, but is intended to work with a narrow range of states. Specifically, it is for use with the ageing option on binary output cells. As the cells age they pass through a number of states. The colors are chosen to resemble the colors of foliage as spring turns to summer and then to autumn.

       State Generations Color
       1 1 white
       2 2-3 mint-green
       3 4-7 bright green
       4 8-15 dark green
       5 16-31 olive-green
       6 32-63 yellow
       7 64-127 orange
       8 128-255 red
       9 256-511 reddish-brown
       10 512-1024 brown

Gradient Mode: Gradient mode is designed to display a wider range of states. Cells in state 0 (binary off) display as black. As positive states have increasingly higher values, their brightness gradually increases until the states reaches a maximum value of 1024, and they display white. Negative values gradually take on a blue color until they reach -1024, and they display a pure blue. Cells with the ageing option active in gradient mode will have their states set to their age, so they brighten over time.

State Editing Mode:
The color scheme of the State editing mode is identical to the Classic display mode. For convenience of editing, grid lines are visible between cells, as long as the magnification setting is set to 5 or more.

Cell Editing Mode: When in cell editing mode, cells appear color coded according to cell type, with grid lines visible between cells.
