Physical Board - LiamHeynderickx/BattleCommand_EE3 GitHub Wiki
In this page the design and materials used for the physical playing board, along with the 3D printed boats is discussed.
Board
The playing board is made out of MDF as it is both cheap and strong enough for the desired usage. The MDF is then laser cut according to the attached .svg files. Once assembled the board should look as follows:
The board is also responsible for housing the LED's that visualize the game state. as seen in the above image, the board has a 10x10 grid cut into the MDF, which is where the LED's will be placed. The wiring and placement of the LED's can be seen below, along with an image of the board with all LED's illuminated.
Boats.
The boats are 3D printed. It is important that they are all printed in a black material, otherwise the image processing software that determines their positions will not work. These boats have plexi pins that fit into the LED grid, holidng the boats in place and allowing the light of the LED to shine through. All models of the boats are included below.
Playing State
Below is an image of the board in a playing state, with the boats placed and the LED's visualizing the game.
