The continuous performance task (CPT) is design to measure attention and inhibitory control over an extended period of time. We are basing ours off the Conners-II. In accordance with the grant, we will be presenting many target stimuli that will require the press of a button. Additionally, there will be a less frequent non-target stimulus that when presented will require not to press the button. In the original tasks, letters were used as the target stimuli and the non-target was the letter 'X'. For our version, we are using geometric shapes as the target (90%) and a cross symbol as the non-target (10%). There will be 6 blocks comprised of 60 trials each (total of 360 trials not including the practice round). Each block will contain 20 trials that has an interstimulus interval (ISI) of 1s, 2s, and 4s (20 + 20 + 20 = 60).

This task will be administered to children 6 years and older and should take around 15 minutes to complete.

  • Targets: Circle, Diamond, Hexagon, Pentagon, Square, and Triangle (6 shapes).

  • Non-target: Cross (a single shape).
